Mario is a 2 year old American Bully mix who is utterly adorable and loving. He enjoys spending time in the yard soaking up the sun and likes to snuggle up on the couch and get love from his foster mom. Despite being a compact 60 lbs, he thinks he is a lap dog and when presented with the opportunity, he climbs on board! He is pretty much the perfect little brindle package :) Mario is happy and joyful and he brings that energy wherever he goes. He is friendly and fun and we think he's pretty special!
Mario came to the shelter as a stray and was never claimed by anyone. While a favorite among shelter staff, Mario exhibited leash reactivity to other dogs so he was not placed up for adoption. Shelter staff continued to work with him daily and his reactivity improved drastically. He is now able to focus on his handler instead of the other dogs and can walk past other dogs. Because a shelter is a stressful place, it was hard for him to truly overcome his reactivity so we decided it was time for him to join our rescue! Once allowed to actually get to another dog, Mario was able to play and was actually quite nice, although rambunctious. It was determined that he just has frustration from being on his leash and he'd rather just run up to the other dogs and say hello! We can't say as we blame him because that's how we feel when we see a dog!
Mario's ideal family would be a semi-active family who would give him the exercise he needs to get his initial energy out. Because he is an American Bully, he isn't going to require long daily jogs or anything, but a nice walk around the neighborhood followed by some playtime in the back yard would be enjoyed. In general dog terms, he is a pretty mellow guy. Mario is very interested/obsessed with the cats in his foster home so he would need to be adopted into a no-cat home. He would do fine in a home with older children (over 8) but because he gets the zoomies and sometimes likes to jump up he could be too much for younger children. We think he would do fine with another dog but it would really depend on the dog.
Mario is a smart little cookie and knows how to sit and shake and is now learning "down." His foster mom is doing a lot of work with him and teaching him basic obedience such as having door manners, sitting and waiting politely before going through the door, and learning to be calm and quiet in the living room instead of thinking every minute is Mario play time! He is crate trained, house trained, neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
