Maggie-3 year old mixed breed dog weighing about 22 lbs. Spayed, house trained, crate trained, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Child appropriate? Maggie would do best with old, dog savvy kids.
Other dog appropriate? Yes, with a proper intro. Maggie prefers smaller dogs for playing but gets along with bigger dogs also. She currently lives with a bigger dog and does just fine.
Cat appropriate? Yes! Maggie has lived with 5 different cats and just ignores them.
How is he/she with strangers? Maggie is a friendly greeter but she needs a slow intro and treats to warm up. She can frighten easily and does not prefer strangers to pet her over her head or try to pick her up. Once she gets to know you she is great!
What is his/her play style? Maggie loves to play bow with other dogs and run around the yard. She can be a bit of a herder with other dogs as well. She loves to play tickle once she trusts you and she enjoys fetching the ball.
Does he/she like toys? Maggie enjoys playing fetch with her mini tennis balls and carrying around her mini rope toys.
Does he/she like water? Maggie does not prefer water at all.
Does he/she like car rides? Yes! Maggie loves going for car rides and rides very nicely in the car sitting on the seat.
Exercise level needed? Low to moderate. She loves her walks and playing in the yard and that seems to be enough for her.
Behavior issues? Maggie resource guards her food, toys, and her special person. She prefers to eat by herself and not share her toys or treats. That is easy to manage by simply feeding her in her crate and giving her treats selectively. She may growl if on your lap and other people or animals come near if she has selected you as "her person". She gets excited when people visit and tends to jump up to greet.
Skills? She knows knows "sit", "go lay down" and "shake" and comes when called.
Special/endearing things? Maggie is extremely loving and mellow and wants that one person to trust and take care of her. She is happy and joyful and very exuberant. Once she trusts you she is very sweet and lovable and she's so easy to care for in the home.
Ideal home: Maggie would do best with a family who understands fearful dogs and can make her feel safe. She is not the kind of dog immediately wants to be your best friend and she takes a bit of time to trust you. Once given time, Maggie shines and will be a devoted companion. Her perfect home would be with older person who will set boundaries and respect Maggie's privacy and unwillingness to share.
