Lou Lou is the sweetest thing around. We know, we know, we say that about a lot of dogs, but once Lou Lou loves you, he loves you hard and loves you for life! He is so crazy happy to make new friends! He is a young boy at just around 3 years old.
More about Lou Lou:
Kid appropriate? Lou Lou would do best in a home without children. He is a very shy and sensitive boy and just does better with adults.
Other dog appropriate? Yes!! Lou loves other dogs and loves playing. He plays a bit rough and tumble but if another dog is ok with that, he will be great. He really shines when he's around other dogs.
Cat appropriate? No kitties for Lou.
How is he with strangers? Lou Lou needs slow intros to new people. He is shy and it is best for him to meet strangers by going on a short walk and having the stranger toss treats to him. After about 10 minutes, he's great, but he needs to know he's safe at first.
What is his play style? He loves to run around and do zoomies. He can be a bit rough at times and needs to be reminded not to jump or snatch toys from you. He respects verbal corrections to calm down when given.
Does he like toys? He enjoys playing with stuffy toys and balls but he prefers people to toys.
Does he like water? He has not been around large bodies of water but does take a dip in the kiddie pool occasionally.
Does he/she like car rides? He rides fine in a car but is very vigilant of life around him.
Exercise level needed? Medium exercise. He needs a place to run around and do zoomies and get energy out but if he has another doggie companion, that helps too. Without another dog, he would need to be walked daily or played with in the back yard.
Does he know any commands? Yes! He know sit, shake, touch, down, off, wait and come.
Any behavior issues? Lou Lou came to us in need of intensive training for barrier aggression and fear of strangers. He attended an 8 week board and train program where he learned manners and learned to trust new people. He overcame his barrier aggression but will still need to be managed in this area. Barriers can be crates, fences, cars, anything he is confined behind or within. He has done awesome with this since leaving training but it's always something that will need to be managed by his adopter. His fear of strangers has improved drastically; however, when meeting new people for the first time he still struggles with them just approaching him. We have found that if he is walked on leash near the new person for just 10 minutes or so, while the occasional treat is tossed his way, he warms up and is fine with the new person. We all have quirks and this is just one of Lou Lou's. Once he knows you he loves you with all his heart and is wonderful, he is just nervous at first.
Special/endearing about Lou Lou? Lou Lou is so incredibly loving and sweet. He adores people and wants nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch, give kisses, and be as close as possible. He is so trusting once he gets to know you and he has the biggest heart. Lou Lou doesn't 100% trust the world, and who can blame him, his time at the shelter was not a happy one and his life before that was worse. He has come so far and would be the most wonderful family member to an adult home if someone would give him the chance. His behaviors are very easy to manage and it's worth it to get such a fun and loving dog.
Ideal home? A home with only adults is preferable and one where there are not a lot of child visitors. Lou Lou is not comfortable around children as they frighten him. He would do best in a home that is low key and doesn't have a ton of visitors and activity. He is a dog who prefers to be home and is not the kind of dog one can take to public places. He just doesn't feel safe out there. A home where he has a nice big yard to run around and a family who understands just how special he is. No kitties but another dog would be perfect for him as he gains confidence with dogs and really enjoys playing with them!
Lou Lou is crate trained, house trained, UTD on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.
