Darcy is a 3 year old mixed breed dog who was found as a stray and her family never claimed her. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, house trained and crate trained and ready for adoption!
Child appropriate? Darcy would be fine with children but she does like to jump a little bit when she is excited so the family would need to be aware that this might frighten or possibly injure small children. But she will smother them with kisses if she knocks them down :)
Other dog appropriate? Darcy enjoys the company of other dogs but she is a bit pushy in her play style so her doggie friend would need to be ok with her style. She is friendly and loves to wrestle and run around with her dog pals. She has been fine with big and small dogs but dogs her size are probably a better fit than small dogs simply because of her play style.
Cat appropriate? No kitties for Darcy.
How is he/she with strangers? Darcy greets strangers happily and seems fine with new people.
What is his/her play style? As mentioned above, her play style with other dogs is a bit rough and tumble although Darcy responds very well to verbal commands to stop and play nice. She enjoys running around and playing ball and is a very active little dog.
Does he/she like toys? Yes, she LOVES toys of all kinds. She loves stuffies and Kong puzzles and she loves balls, especially her Kong ball and her jolly ball. She runs all over the yard and can amuse herself for a long time playing with her jolly ball. There is no toy she has met that she didn't like!
Does he/she like water? She doesn't seem to care to get into or play in water. She avoids the pool at her foster home but does not appear afraid of it. She will go out in the rain to potty though, so she doesn't hate rain.
Does he/she like car rides? She seems to enjoy car rides and she rides very well in a car.
Exercise level needed? Darcy is a very active little dogs but once she is allowed to get her energy out she settles down and enjoys snuggling. Daily walks or jobs or playing ball with her gets her energy out fine. She will play ball for a long time if you'll play with her! She gets the zoomies frequently and is so much fun to watch run around!
Behavior issues? Darcy is reactive to other dogs upon first meeting when behind a barrier or when on leash. She will begin pulling and jumping and barking/crying loudly when she sees another dog while on leash. She will also turn and grab her leash and bite at it. It is specific to being on leash and she does fine with other dogs when off leash once she has met them. It is related to frustration and this behavior has improved with time. If you are wanting to take her out on walks in a busy area she would need continued training in this area. In her foster homes she has done well by living in the house separately for a week or so until she gets used to seeing the other dog from behind an expen and once she is comfortable, she is completely fine. She just needs slow intros when meeting new dogs. Darcy also chews when she is left alone out of stress so she does need to be crated when left alone.
Medical issues? None known.
Skills? Darcy knows "sit" and "shake" and "crate". She is very smart and can learn commands very easily.
Special/endearing things? Darcy is super duper sweet! She has a face of an angel and she uses it! She adores people and all she wants is to be somebody's best friend. She loves being with her human companions and she will snuggle up really close on the couch while watching t.v. or napping. She is so darling! We cannot say that enough. She has a heart of gold and has so much love to give. She is sensitive to correction and does not like loud voices and can be a bit timid because she very much wants to please and it seems to hurt her feelings when she has let anyone down. She is small and compact and easy to have in the home and she is polite and appropriate in the home. Darcy is a very fun dog who puts a smile on everyone's face and it's hard to resist her. She is happy all the time, literally all the time! She's so much fun she doesn't even need others to amuse her; instead, she'll just toss her toys up in the air so she can chase them! She loves being outside too and will play for hours.
Ideal home: Darcy is a young and energetic dog so will do best in a home with caregivers who can give her adequate exercise and attention. She will do fine with a medium sized, fenced yard and plenty of toys to play. She needs to be an inside dog who is part of the family. We would love to see her adopted into a family that is content to have their dog stay at home since Darcy can be reactive on leash out in public. While she does fine with every human she meets and she enjoys car rides, she isn't the kind of dog who would do well going every single place you go. She needs a home with people who love her and are kind to her and give her attention so people who are gone all the time would not be a good fit.
If you are looking for a whole lot of love and fun in your life, we believe Darcy is just what you need! One minute she'll have you laughing out loud and the next she'll have you cuddling up next to her on the couch :)
