Boogie is an older gentleman estimated to be around 5 years old. We don't have his history but it doesn't appear his early years were kind on him so he may look older than he is. He is a mixed breed but we believe he's got a good amount of Lab in him. He may also be part Rottie. He's crate trained, house trained, UTD on vaccinations, heart worm negative, neutered, microchipped and leash trained. He's a mellow, sweet guy who needs a relaxing home where he can grow old with kindness. He has really flourished in his foster home and we feel it's time for him to find his forever home, a play where he can be loved on and make up for lost time.
Child appropriate? Boogie would do well with children 14 and older. He is a mellow guy who likes to lead a low key lifestyle so we think he'd prefer older human siblings.
Other dog appropriate? Yes! Boogie currently lives with a mild mannered female Akita and gets along well with her. He doesn't appear to enjoy roughhousing so we think a friendly, mellow doggie friend would be best.
Cat appropriate? His foster home has a cat but the cat won't go anywhere near Boogie so we aren't sure about cats. Because he is pretty easy going, we think he might do ok with a cat but we don't know for sure.
How is he with strangers? Boogie enjoys meeting people when he's with his foster caregivers. He can be a bit protective of his yard when people come by but does fine meeting people when they come into the house. He likes to greet people at the door and inspect all visitors :)
What is his play style? Boogie is a low to medium energy player. He likes running or meandering around the yard with his doggie buddy but doesn't really roughhouse. He's just a mellow dog.
Does he like toys? Boogie doesn't seem to enjoy squeaky toys but he will chew on soft, non-squeaky toys. He hasn't shown much interest in rubber toys or chew toys.
Does he like water? Boogie hasn't shown himself to be much of a water dog. He won't go into the kiddy pool and doesn't enjoy the hose but he's never been to a lake so that might be a different story! We believe there's Lab in there somewhere so you never know!
Does he like car rides? He LOVES car rides! They are one of his favorite things to do. In fact, if someone visits and leaves their door open, Boogie reads that as an invitation to hop in and take a spin! He is a good rider with good manners in the car.
Exercise level needed? Boogie would do fine with around a mile walk a day. He seems content with that distance and the rest of his exercise consists of patrolling the back yard.
Behavior issues? While we would not say he has an issue with resource guarding, he is very food oriented so his foster caregivers feed separately and do not give the dogs bones or bully sticks together. Boogie goes to his crate when he wants to chew on a treat. There haven't been in incidents, however, it's just better to be cautious and feeding dogs separately is a good rule to follow for all dogs.
Medical issues? Boogie has a cracked tooth but it has not shown to be an issue and at this time, the vet does not feel it needs to come out. He has had some allergies on his feet but we have not been able to diagnose the root and it appears to be seasonal as it's cleared up at the moment.
Skills? Boogie knows how to sit and lay down when asked. Because he is food motivated, training him is relatively easy.
Special/endearing things? When Boogie is excited to see his caregivers when they come back home, he will make a really cute yodeling sound! He is happy to see people and enjoys the company. When Boogie first came to us he struggled with being touched and would freeze, as though he had never been touched or touched affectionately before, but after time in his foster home he has learned to love affection and petting from his caregivers. He's a happy boy and just enjoys the simple things in life. Did we mention he likes food? We haven't found his limit where he is too full to eat-haha. He seems to like everything, including dog food, treats, fruits and veggies. His favorites are carrots and apple and of course any kind of meat! One very cute thing he does is he likes to take a soft blanket and suck or chew on it for comfort but isn't destructive.
Ideal home? Boogie's ideal home may or may not have another dog; he could go either way. He would do well with another calm dog near his age as he seems to like the companionship but enjoys people just as much so would do fine as the only pet. He is used to having a caregiver home with him during the day, which he enjoys, but he's ok when left alone too, as long as it wasn't long, long hours. He would enjoy a home where he could get a morning and evening walk and perhaps a car ride once a week. Boogie loves to be inside the house and outside wherever his caregivers are so he needs a home where he can truly be part of the family. He would love to be able to sit on the couch with his family or share the bed with someone. He's a mellow guy who would make a great companion to an older person or older couple as he'll be great company and a friend for life. Boogie is a sensitive soul so a home that doesn't use loud or firm voices would be best.
